What We Can Do!

I just wrote an article for an NGO called Smile Foundation for which I had to do a little research on the organisation. What they do, how they work and what benefit it causes.

Well, whenever I tend to make an research What,How and Why always comes to my mind. What I think is right what I share here.

Infrastructure

Research has proved that our country has 53 billionaires; the fourth highest in the world. But the same country has over 3 million children living on the streets.Among the world’s 10 richest people, four are Indians. On the other side, 17 million Indian children work as labourers.
India’s economy is galloping around 7% GDP growth. But also, 2 million children die before their first birthday due to lack of immunization and medical facilities!

There are many other aspects that India needs to struggle with for example AIDS, Cancer, Domestic Violence, Slum Areas, Economic unbalance, etc.

Like they say every coin has its other side, the other side is a little bit disturbing.Whenever I have my evening meal, imagining that some children out there didn't even had their lunch is something to worry about. There are many foundations that work towards these problem, giving underpriviledged children what they deserve and helping them together, preventing AIDS with proper knowledge, helping those people who don't have enough capital to pay for their own medicals and other problems.

Examples

Some of the most popular Organisations in India are Asha for Education, Smile Foundation, Nav Shrishti, Awaaz Do, Gram Vikas,  Arpan Foundation, Centr for Old in Need, Charitable Care Foundation, etc.

What Can We Do?

Poeple can always donate money to such noble causes. If you can't donate money the one thing you have is time, you can volunteer your services from your city doing whatever one can do towards our country. I am visiting Care Foundation next week to see what I can do. Are you ready?

Wardrobe Essentials For College Girls

It is college season girls!! And I am sure like me you all are freaking out too. Everything is going to be soo new and interesting!! Please ignore all the negetive thoughts you have right now (if you do) and think about the most important question of all times. What are you gonna wear on the first day? and so on? Its college time, and we want to look good. C'mon, I know you do, don't disagree!!!! But most of us have the same unique problem, a little lack of know-hows. That's what you need, and that's what you gonna get! Me especially just love to dress-up. I like making my own style statement no matter what other people think.

I know what we all girls need. When we're in college, we really just start to develop a wardrobe, a closet full of clothes that will last us not only for 4 years of college, but on into “the real world.” We want to keep up with trends, but at the same time, we want clothes that won’t be unwearable next season. I hear yall!!

Here is what I believe to be the definitive guide to what every college girl should have in her wardrobe. No, no I am not going to tell you to wear all skimpy clothes with lots of show-show. Neither am I gonna tell you about what the latest celebrities are wearing as if diamonds and skin tight stuff because I know college girls in India cannot dress that way. We need to go with the tradition plus have an our edge in it. It's about what you’re actually going to want to be wearing for your four years of college life. Don't worry, I have them all and they really work!!!

Absolute Must's

                                             4-5 Pair Of Jeans That Fit Well

I know what you are thinking. Some colleges and school does not allow girls to wear jeans. Actually it's not that, mostly when a girl wears jeans, the on go top with it gets always skin tight or skimpy. So just to stop the over attention problem, the school faculty had the rule. So all you can do is pair it with kurtis or long loose Tshirts and make a statemement with it.
Jeans (not sweatpants!) are the basics of a college girl’s closet. Find a brand of denim that fits you well, and then stock up on different basic washes and styles. Rotate these through the week (no one will notice if you wear the same pair twice in one week, I promise.)
One of these pairs can be a trendy style, like skinny jeans or wide leg jeans. Just don’t buy all trendy denim, because you’ll have to buy new jeans next season or risk looking really out of date.

  Kurtis are way more different that Tshirts. They look elegant, sober and cute. You can roam all over without anyone commenting bad about it. Girls who are not confortable with Tshirts and dresses have a great deal with these.

Pair them up with Jeans, Leggins and some Accessories and you are good to go. Do not forget the hairstyle!!!

                                                                             Different Coloured Leggings

Another wardrobe essential for Indian college girls are different coloured leggings. They are skin tights in bright colours and you can find then in materials like linen and cotton. Well, I'll recommend linen beacuse it looks awesome with a shimmer. Buy legging in bright colours like Orange, Muave, Lemon Green, White, Yellow, Pink or anything favourite you want it will add a little glow to your daily wardrobe. Team it up with Kurtis and long Tshirts (only if you are sure about your body type), try it on and you are definitely listed in one of college's top trend setters. *conditions apply

                                                           T-Shirt

One of the most important ones. I don't think there is anyone around here how doens't like wearing a T-shirt or at least close to its type. They are the most comfortable and rocking college wear. Mostly cheaper than other apparells T-shirts helps in Fashion crisis a lot. If you can't decide what to wear today, just go with the flow, take out one of your T's and pair it up with a Jeans that looks good with it.                                                       Now for the introvert types, you can definitely go with loose or long T's that wouldn't show off much and you can definitely sneak out of the invigilator's eyes (if any).

                                                      Flats or Chappals

Nowadays I personally love flats, its monsoon and there is no way I can walk in my heels (not that I can walk properly in normal times.......ooo-hhh! i didn't say that!!) Flats or Chappals are the cheapest and the most affordable footware you can have in your closet. Essential for ever girl, they can go well with long fitted T's or Kurtis but do keep it colourfull too.

If you wanna add some addition glitz to your glamour quotient you can buy some Ballet flats. No, no I am not asking you to learn Ballet but Ballet flats are just the most awesome flats that i have. They look sheek, elegant and just add to our glory with ribbons and great material.

Another essential RED FLATS!!! Definitely get them, will go awesome with any of you Black outfit.

A White Formal Shirt

You can use a white formal shirt when there is some sort of Academic function or stuff going on in your college. It makes you look girly plus business type. In short, cool studious way to portrey yourself.

Pair it with skinny jeans or Capris if you prefer and they will make you glow. White suits everybody!!!

                                                        Chunky Bangles

Ok! If you are not a bangle type and don't like lots of stuff going on at your hand, just skip this section. bangles look best for the girls with Kurti and Jeans or Leggings look. The best alternative for a watch or a bracelet. They look nice and huge, makes your hand pump.

                                          A Classy Evening Dress

I know some of you might not have or like this one, as most of girls do not wear a short dress. But one should at least have a dress to look something different than usual, whenever you wanna go to a party or you have a date, you can totally go with that. It has all sort of shapes and sizes according to your needs so you don't have to feel uncomfortable wearing it. No need for going all glittery with lots of accessories but you should a clutch and some great pair of sandals to go with it. So, if you don't have one yet, just go buy it!!

                                                     1-2 Pair Of High Heels

Needed for special occassions Stelattoes, Platforms or High Heels looks graceful with any outfit you wear but they are fairly expensive either if you buy a nice brand. So i'll advice you to have not more than 1 or 2 of them to just save it for some good scenes.                                                        If you can't walk in them just buy one descent height and practise because sooner or later you're gonna have to try, so just have it for that sake. They too come in aweosme colours and shapes but i'll advice you bright ones.

                               A Bag That Holds Everything

You want a bag that’s good quality (canvas, leather, or strong fake-leather are good bets), goes with most of your wardrobe, and still looks chic. The right bag can also go from day to night, so look for classic details like metal accents.

Also, bonus points if you can find a bag that has lots of pockets and zippered compartments to keep you organized! Trust me!! You'll need it in college!!

Nice To Have

• Sweatpants - For hanging around the house, get some cute sweats! Note that these are for hanging and lounging only and are NOT to be worn to class, except if you’ve been up all night studying for a final and plan to go back to sleep after you take it.
  Even for a final, think hard about wearing sweats in public. The only other exception is if you’re working out, but I’m sure you know that.
• 1-3 Summer Skirts - These will be nice to have. I like knee-length solid colored and floral printed skirts, because they are so easy to pair with flip flops, pretty jewelry and a simple tank top in the warmer months.
• Slippers - For walking around in yourhouse. I like really ridiculous, fun slippers – bright colors, fluffy textures or duck prints, for example. They’re slippers – you’re only going to wear them indoors.. go as crazy as you want.
  
• Rain Boots - Cute rain boots are nice to have but not essential. (I still haven’t found my perfect pair yet!)


• A Cozy Hoodie - This is another nice-to-have college staple. Hoodies with your college’s logo are great for lounging, studying and being comfortable, but don’t fall into the trap of wearing them everywhere! Use with caution.

Goddess or Medical Marvel? (The Girl With Eight Limbs-True Story)

We are in the 21st century India, with all the new thought processes, generation gaps, western fashion, and new relatinship rules India is trying its hands on every development deal possible. But still there are divisions and places where development has its own definitions. We all know about Indian villages and their conditions, no matter how down to earth and hardworking poeple are, there is something that is definitely blocking their growth. Blindfaiths some of the major factors affecting them. Maybe many of you know the story of this girl named Laxmi and maybe some of you do not. 


THE STORY OF LAXMI
 In a remote village in the Bihar region of northeast India, in October 2005, a woman named Poonam Tatma gave birth to an extraordinary child -- a girl with four arms and four legs who was destined to become famous worldwide.

The newborn was the image of a multi-limbed Hindu goddess named Lakshmi, who is worshiped as a deity of wealth and good fortune. And so the child was also named Lakshmi.

"After she was born, for a whole month crowds of people came to see her," Tatma said. "It was said that Lakshmi had been born here."

Poeple started worshipping her as the human incarnation of Goddess Laxmi, gave her money and food so that she could anyhow fullfill their wishes. As her parents didn't believe in doctors for some strange reasons, refused to take help. After much a-do they agreed to consult one for their daughter's condition.

THE MEDICAL SIDE!

When Lakshmi turned age 2, a socialworker sent photos of her to Dr. Sharan Patil, who is a leading orthopedic surgeon at Sparsh Hospital in Bangalore, India, which specializes in treating skeletal abnormalities in children.


Rajesh Kumar Singh, the village chief, told National Geographic that "A child who looks like this, with four arms and four legs, according to our scriptures, must be the Goddess Lakshmi. It's a wonderful piece of luck to have a child born like this and surviving like this."

The Tatma family earned the equivalent of about 8,000 Rs. a year from farming, and couldn't afford even basic medicines for Lakshmi. They could have profited by charging others to see her, but chose not to. They turned down an offer to sell her to a traveling circus. I personally appreciate what her parents did, because not most of the poor families do that. I have heard people selling their children for not more than just 300 Rs. For those cruelities this was the best example.

Her parents, too, believed she was a goddess. But they also knew she had the needs of a disabled child. Her mother worried about how she would provide care when Lakshmi grew older. "Picking her up, sitting her down, putting her to sleep, these are the problems," Poonam Tatma said. "She tries to crawl with other children but they go ahead of her. She can't keep up. The problem is what will happen when she is older? Right now, she is small, so we can do it. When she is older, who will do it?"


Dr. Patil went on had a visit to this village of Bihar to check up on the little girl but he had to face lots of problems. Laxmi being a popular celebrity there had followers nad woshippers who protested on her getting any sort of treatment. With lots of explanation from her parents and doctors they agreed. That's what I hate about some poeple, if you don't know about something just don't push yourself right in the middle with nothing but argue.  

Doctors took Laxmi and her parents to their Bangalore hospital to find out if the surgery was even possible.

The first X-rays revealed complications. Lakshmi's spine was joined to that of her parasitic twin, and doctors had to determine how to separate the spine without affecting Lakshmi neurologically. They also discovered that Lakshmi had only one functioning kidney. A second functioning kidney was in the parasitic twin.

A LIFE-THREATENING SURGERY

On Nov. 6, 2007, Lakshmi was wheeled away from her parents, and the surgery began. Pediatric surgeons made the first incision, to identify her internal structures -- "which of them belonged to the parasite and which belonged to Lakshmi," Patil said.

Surgeons tied off connecting blood vessels, ensuring that Lakshmi's vital organs weren't damaged. After the parasite's functioning kidney was transplanted to Lakshmi, neurosurgeons began the dangerous separation of Lakshmi's spine where it was connected to the spine of the parasite.

"One [couldn't] make out where the spine of Lakshmi ended and then the other one started," Patil said. "So we erred on the side of safety, and preserved some part of the spine of the parasite."

At midnight, 16 hours into the operation, came the riskiest surgery of all. Doctors were finally ready to remove Lakshmi's conjoined, parasitic twin. "It was a very critical and crucial phase because there were a lot of body fluid shifts, and the moment we tie off the blood vessels, there is a buildup of chemicals in the parasitic twin, which can become dangerous if they travel back into the host tissue. So we had to be pretty quick from that point on. ... Speed was of the essence at that point in time."

Another crucial phase in the reconstructive surgery was to bring the bones of Lakshmi's pelvis together so that they could support her vital organs. Twenty-four hours after the surgery began, Patil finally was able to reassure Lakshmi's parents. "The operation was successful," he told them. "Lakshmi is healthy."


In her room, recovering from the surgery after sleeping soundly, Lakshmi began to open her eyes and move her fingers. For the first time, her parents saw the child who once had been the image of a goddess as an average 2-year-old, with two arms and two legs.

"Lakshmi had one strange look on her face, looking down at her own body," Patil said. "I don't know how to put it but … I almost felt that she was telling me, 'Doc, good job done.'"


LIFE WITH FOUR LIMBS 

When Lakshmi was released from the hospital a month after the surgery, the family took her to the desert state of Rajasthan, far from their village, where she began attending a school for disabled children. During a school break, they returned to their village for a visit. Lakshmi is learning to raise herself upright and balance herself. She has begun to take her first steps.

"Now she can walk on her own," her mother said. "Her cousin comes, and they play the whole day long."
A member of a television crew that traveled to Bihar to videotape Lakshmi's progress in early June said that some of the villagers had grown resentful of the Tatma family, believing the Tatmas had benefited financially from the free medical care.


The family is not wealthy. Lakshmi's father, Shambu, works as a day laborer. When the Tatmas return to Rajasthan so that Lakshmi can continue attending the school for disabled children, he will work for the school. Lakshmi will need additional surgery where her spine was separated from her parasitic twin. She also will need surgery on her feet, which were turned inward because of their positioning above the area where she was joined to the parasite.


A statue of Lakshmi, made by a village craftsman when she still had eight limbs, remains in the village. Some villagers told interviewers they still consider Lakshmi a goddess. Certainly, her parents do.


"I think for every parent the child is a goddess," Patil said.

Asked whether he believed there was a higher power involved in Lakshmi's story, he said, "It is the wishes of many people; it is the prayers of many people; it is the will of the child to live. ... Everything put together, to come together, it has to be some kind of divine intervention."

It is the true story of courage and believe. Fight between the mith and science. It's true that every story teaches us something or the other lesson of life. I've learned one today too.

 












 

The 3G Era!!

We all watch news regularly, Ok! Sometimes. But what sort of news that interests me are one of the latest gadgets and sofwares (not to mention celebrity scandals). Nowadays whenever I go through any news channel, 3G gadgets are everywhere. 3G is not yet so popular in India but it is one of the greatest technologies ever. So what is this 3G all about? And how is it deifferent from others?

3G:

3G created by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is the 3rd installment of wireless technology. With the evolution in technology, the world of communication has been of great advantage and the things have been pushed to their limits. It is a fact that in today’s increasingly dependance on technology society, there is no we can disconect ourselves from the the technology. You look around you see hundreds and thousands stuff that wouldn't work without science. 3G was launched to facilitate growth, increase bandwidth and support more diverse applications. The aim of launching 3G was to unify the various international standards, but it proved to be really difficult. After some negotiations, a 3G standard known as IMT-2000 emerged which basically represents various standards brought together under one banner and is thus successful in providing ‘global roaming’ in phones using these standards. Nokia 6233 is among the 1st 3G phones launched in the market.

Standards grouped under IMT-2000 :

* W-CDMA

W-CDMA stands for Wideband Code-Division Multiple Access and is officially known as IMT-2000 direct speed. It has been derived from Code-Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and can support portable voice, images, data and video communications at upto 2 Mbps.

* CDMA 2000

CDMA 2000 is known as IMT-CDMA Multi-Carrier. It can support communication speeds from 144 kbps – 2 mbps. World’s first 3G system, launched by SK telecom (South Korea) in 2000, used CDMA 2000 1X.

* TD-CDMA

TD-CDMA is defined as IMT-TD Time-Division. It provides better quality of service for multimedia communication.

* DECT

DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications. It is a digital wireless technology launched to make cordless phones much more common in both businesses and homes. It has 5 applications: The Cordless, WLL, Cordless Terminal Mobility, Home Cordless Phone and GSM/DECT internetworking.

* UWC – 136

UWC – 136 means Universal Wireless communication – 136. It has enhancements to the TDMA (IS-136) cellular phones that help increase data rates. Its key components are EDGE and WIN.

Unfortunately, out of these 5 standards, only 3, W-CDMA, CDMA 2000 and TD-CDMA are able to allow full network coverage.

Why is 3G better?

Undoubtedly, 3G is better than its preceding technologies, i.e. 2G and 2.5G. Some of the advantages it has are:

* Several times higher data speed which ranges between 128 kbps and 144 kbps. In case of LANs, the speed goes as high as 2 Mbps.

* Enhanced audio and video streaming.

* It has video-conferencing support, which is not available in any of the previous technologies.

* Web and WAP browsing is available at comparatively higher speeds.

* It has IPTV support as well.

Requirements to use 3G:

* A 3G compatible device (phone).

* 3G phones usually need 2 cameras. One in the front as well since it’s required for video conferencing.

* Unlike Wifi, you need to subscribe to a service provide to get 3G network connectivity.

Is it worth it?

Though 3G is not cheap, but it is definitely worth spending on it as it provides you connectivity on the move. 3G phones usually have Wifi support as well. Some applications can even help 3G users make free mobile calls. With all other features which are available in 2G phones, enhanced to the exceptional features talked above, a 3G phone can very well be an addiction!!

So if you do not have a 3G updated phone yet, just run and grab it. I am going too!!!!

Its a regular page of life when many people report that their best friends are online connections - people they never saw or met. At one time I definitely would have been shocked by this and think those people are nutcases who without even knowing a person are friends (correction), close friends with them, but not any more. Actually I am one of those nutcases too, now that I have online friends that I have never met, that I talk to more than the real people around me. I wonder sometimes how did I change so drastically?

What is it about these sites that make you visit them everyday? We get so impatient or eager to know what is going on there. Just to update our status we flip through thousands of things that went on in a single day and yet post about almost all of them. How and why did it become such important in our lives?

As little as a ten year old we would have been correct if we considered Social Networking to mean going out with all your friends and meeting their friends and different people around but nowadays its definition is not even close. Social Networking is still about meeting people but not face to face, Internet plays the mediocre.

Groups of like minded people gather on Social Networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, Myspace and many more. On some of these sites you can even open a 'chat' option which allows you to instant message someone sitting at any corner of the world.

These sites gives you many options on what you want to do that day. Based on commonalities, these sites bring together people with common interests to discuss stuff like hobbies, education, politics, likes, dislikes, audios, vedios, etc. Especially for girls, you can gossip anytime you want and after you are done with it, quickly delete it as if you never said it. Its like the old skool pen friend that people used to have, the plus point here is you can have hundreds and thousands of pen friends and you won't even have to wait a week or a month to hear from them.

I have found many people asking me if Twitter was better or Facebook. Well, me being on both i cannot really choose, they both have their own good and bad feilds but yes, the number makes the difference.

In a research we found that Social Networking is now conquering the Web, and the two leaders in this growing market are Facebook and Twitter. Each site has built communities of millions of users and developers in just a few short years, and they are fighting each other to become the top destination for Web users looking to share information with friends and colleagues. Twitter, launched in March 2006, lured 21.5 million unique visitors in April 2010 for 147.4 million total visits.

Facebook is clearly the most popular social networking site, and it trails only Google as the Internet site with the most visitors. If you don't count YouTube, the video sharing service, as a social network, then Twitter is firmly in second place. But you gotta choose what you like the most.

Nowadays more than how many good and regular friends you have on these sites it has become more of how many friends they show at your profile or how many followers you have. People tend to increase their numbers and i bet they do not even know half of them properly. We find different schemes at twitter like, ' Get 10,000 followers in just one day. CLick here!' or people just add others as friends on these social sites just for the show off sake. Do we all know how safe this is? How far can we trust a stranger?

Everything has its pros and cons, and here the cons are mostly the same. Since the medium allows you to be annonymus,some people use fake personas and act in a predatory manner towards the vulnerable. At the same time, there are many news reports of users alerting police of a medical or other emergency just by providing another users profile.

So the conclusion part is use the technology carefully and make the most of it.

Blogs (don't get confused, just read)

It hasn't been even a decade when now Blogs are the most popular mean of expressing. Back then, if you had mentioned 'Blog' to just about anyone, they would have looked at you as if you are some crazy person that just got out of an mental asylum. Even today some people don't even know what a blog is! Weird huh? This must be weird for those people who are used to or i might say addicted to blogging. But like me, people are nowadays gaining more and more interest in it. Even in our day to day conversations we find sentences like 'You have no idea what i blogged today!' or 'I gotta blog about this one' or 'You will have to read my blog today or I will kill you'. There is a persistent strain of opinion which holds that blogging is mostly self-centered, but this is not true and many blogs have proven it already.

There are many different ways one can approach a personal blog. Some find that it is good platform to vent about things that made them upset, while simultaneously a good way of communicating with positive feeling i.e. one can just take their rage out by posting their life experiences or share happiness by just writing about it. Some people get creative about their blogs and build some sort of characters around it while some post the day to day happenigs and their views like us. Many popular blogs are surrounded around worldwide celebrities and their lives. What they eat, where they go, what they do and blah-blah. Thank god no-one till now have posted anything about their daily routines, if you know what I mean. These type of blogs are super personal ones. You will ave to be a freaking celebrity to get so many hits. While some other normal people just enjoy putting up opinions and observations, either inviting or at least not discouraging feedback. If all of this sounds a bit like a glorified diary, you’re close, but not quite there. A diary is, after all, intended to be extremely personal while a blog is very much shaped by its potential for wider readership.

Please consider this only if you have this question in your mind! you know, maybe i convinced you all way before. So anyways, jokes apart the real question is why should we blog? Well, by now there are many examples in which a blog has turned into Books, TV Shows and Films. Yes, literally that is true. This medium itself has taken many different shapes like 'Vlogging' or we can say Vedio Blogging in which all you have to do is just have a webcam and an expression filled face. Just speak to the camera and post the vedio content on the blog. This makes anyone and everyone the Star Of Their Own Show, well, it does not guarentee you viewers but you can watch yourself all your own. Vlogging is a better way to demonstrate anger, happiness and weird expressions when it comes to messages.

Blogs are not need to be public, you can totally keep it under shell for your friends and people you know. . Top bloggers have made careers in the wider media and other writing based careers, too, so if you have a gift for the written word like me it can be advantageous to let your opinions be read by an audience. You may simply want an easily archived journal of your thoughts. The only limits are those which you choose to place yourself – which in itself is good practice. It is generally better to keep some things for your eyes only.
